FAQs / Fragen und Antworten

Eure Fragen, unsere Antworten!

Was ist WaveReX®?
Eine moderne PCM Erweiterung für die Korg M1, Korg Wavestation und alle anderen Geräte mit AI Synthese.

In welchen Synthesizern funktioniert WaveReX®?

Was sind DWGS?

Nein. Das geht nur im Editor.

Ist WaveReX® ein Sample-Player?
In seiner einfachsten Form ja.

FAQs. Your questions, our answers.

What is WaveReX®?
A modern PCM extension for the Korg M1, M1R, M3R, T-Series, Wavestation, Wavestation A/D and all corresponding EX-devices.

How do I load waveforms onto WaveReX®?
You can only load samples onto WaveReX using the included editor. For this, you need a USB-B Micro (DATA) cable and a working USB connection.

What language is the interface in?
English. We are planning to add more languages in the future.

Can the card also be used on the M1 without a USB cable?
Yes, the USB connection is primarily used for data transfer. The card is supplied with power via USB so, WaveReX can also be written when not plugged into the M1. During operation, the card is powered by the M1.

Will my waveforms remain on the WaveReX when I turn off the M1 or unplug the connector?
Yes, the memory is a non-volatile (flash) memory.

I've seen pictures of WaveReX without a case in the past. Does WaveReX® come with a case?
You've probably seen pictures of the development stage. Take a look at the pictures of the beta cards. They give a good impression of the final product.

Which sample formats can I use?
Currently, AIFF, WAV and MP3. The sample rate and bit depth are automatically converted by the editor.

Which samples can I load onto WaveReX®?
Currently, AIFF, WAV and MP3.

How many cards will be produced?
We are planning an initial production run of 100 cards. Fewer would be considerably more costly to produce, which would in turn be reflected in the price.

Does WaveReX® also work with other Korg devices?
No. Currently it only works in the M1, M1R, M3R, T-series and the Wavestation. This is due to the fact that the assignment of the card contacts varies from device to device.

Will the card be released for other devices?
Our aspiration is to make WaveReX® THE brand for such expansions. The aspiration depends entirely on you and other people loving and buying our products. A development for 20 orders is not worth the effort. We would very much like to develop further products and already have great ideas.

Can existing PCM cards (MSC-XX) be loaded onto the WaveReX®?
Yes.

Does WaveReX® violate copyrights?
No and we will never do that.

Are multisamples possible?
Yes, of course. That's how the whole concept is structured. You can load whole sample sets. The limit is 8.4 seconds total sample time, 29 Multisounds and 29 drum sounds.

What are DWGS?
DWGS stands for Digital Waveform Generator System and is a term originated from Korg. This refers to single cycle waveforms, i.e. a single period of a waveform or oscillation. The M1 repeats this waveform continuously and thus generates a continuous oscillation based on this one period.

How can I edit the samples?
WaveReX® was conceived from the outset as a tool for assembling multi- and drum sounds into a PCM card. WaveReX does not claim to be a sample editor. Third-party programs can do that much better.
There are many more features planned in the course of development, but currently it is advisable to use third-party software (e.g. SampleRobot, Audition, Audacity etc.) or simply your DAW.
We will provide several tutorials in the future.

Can I cut the samples on the M1, loop them, etc.?
No, you can only use the editor to cut or loop.

Is WaveReX® a sample player?
In its simplest form yes. But that's not the point of the whole thing. The samples should only serve as a basis for a sound.

Which operating systems does WaveReX run on?
Microsoft Windows and Mac OSX 10.9. The Mac Version is still beta.

Which Microsoft Windows do I need?
WaveReX® works with Microsoft Windows 7 SP1 and above.

Are certain drivers required?
Starting with Windows 8, no drivers are required. For users with Windows 7 or below we provide USB drivers.

Is there a Mac OSX Version?
YES. Its just uploaded in our Download Section. It's still beta but fully functional. You need OSX 10.9 or later (Big Sur is not testetd yet!)

How large is the memory?
There is 512kB available. That doesn't seem much nowadays, but Korg has stored over 140 samples on some cards!
The best thing is to let go of the idea of being limited to one card. You can load different waveforms onto WaveReX® at any time.

Can the M1 memory be extended?
Not without rebuilding your M1!

May I exchange samples / PCM cards?
Without doubt! This is even part of the WaveReX® concept. Self-made cards can be exchanged at any time.

Will there be an upload space where you can exchange cards?
We would like to build a community around WaveReX. In the near future we will provide a platform especially for this.

I am a professional sound designer!
Do you feel like making commercial sound sets for the M1? Want to get everything out of the M1? Maybe you want to cover other genres? Just bring the M1 into the 21st century? We would be happy to hear from you and with your help, offer we professional, commercial cards again.

How do you protect commercial sound sets from pirates?
WaveReX® works like a dongle. Piracy is excluded! In return, we expect fair prices for commercial sound sets.

Who is working on the project?
Marco - the developer and inventor of WaveReX®
Dominik - the world's best programmer
Mario - Marketing and Design

Is it possible to test / buy the card / is there a distributor?
In order to keep the costs low, no external distribution has been planned. This would increase the costs, so we distribute everything by ourselves on our website.
